City of Wanneroo Convenes Annual Electors Meeting

Residents of the City of Wanneroo are set to engage directly with their local government tonight, as the City hosts its Annual Electors Meeting. Scheduled for Thursday, 5 February 2026, the session marks a significant point in the local political calendar, providing a formal platform for the community to review the City's performance and voice concerns directly to the Mayor and Council members.

The meeting is slated to begin at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers at the Wanneroo Civic Centre. According to the official agenda, the primary focus of the evening will be the formal receipt of the Annual Report for the 2024/25 financial year. This document outlines the City’s financial standing, project completions, and progress made toward the Strategic Community Plan. Following the presentation of the report, the floor will be opened for public participation.

Key items expected to be discussed include:

  • The Auditor's Report for the preceding financial year.
  • A review of major infrastructure projects and capital works completed in the northern suburbs.
  • Public questions and motions from electors regarding local services, parks, and urban development.

Under the Local Government Act 1995, these meetings are a mandatory requirement, ensuring transparency between the administration and the ratepayers. While Ordinary Council Meetings focus on legislative decisions and policy, the Annual Electors Meeting is designed specifically for public oversight. Motions passed by electors tonight are not binding but must be formally considered by the Council at their next scheduled meeting later this month.

Wanneroo Leads Early 2026 Political Activity

As the first week of February progresses, Wanneroo remains the most active among Perth’s major local governments. While many other municipalities are still finalizing their agendas for the first sessions of the new year, Wanneroo’s scheduling brings residents into the decision-making process ahead of its neighbors.

By comparison, several other major Perth councils have yet to begin their formal public sessions for 2026. The City of Joondalup is not scheduled to hold its first briefing session until next Tuesday, while the City of Perth’s first ordinary meeting is slated for late February. The City of Stirling’s first major council meeting of the year is also expected to take place next week.

For those unable to attend the session at 23 Dundebar Road in person, the City has confirmed that the proceedings will be recorded. Residents are encouraged to review the annual report ahead of the session to facilitate informed discussion during the public question time. The Mayor and sitting Councillors are expected to be in attendance to address the community's inquiries and provide updates on the City's strategic direction for the remainder of the year.
