Community Update: Official Notices and Service Disruptions for 2 February 2026

Major Infrastructure: Fremantle Traffic Bridge Closure
Commencing Monday, 2 February 2026, residents and commuters are advised of significant changes to the metropolitan transport network following the official closure of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge. This closure, which began on Sunday, 1 February, marks the start of a major 12-month project to dismantle the 87-year-old timber structure and replace it with a modern extradosed bridge. Monday represents the first major weekday commute affected by this disruption.
Main Roads Western Australia has implemented extensive traffic management measures to mitigate delays. Motorists are encouraged to rethink their travel patterns and utilize the Stirling Highway, where intersection modifications have been completed to accommodate increased traffic volume. Incident response teams will be permanently stationed along the highway to address any network issues immediately. Additionally, new dedicated school bus services have been introduced this morning to support students at nearby colleges and reduce private vehicle usage over the Stirling Bridge.

Authorities advise the public to avoid jumping or diving into warm fresh water, such as lakes or dams, where the water level may be low. If swimming in these areas, individuals are urged to keep their heads above water and use nose clips.
