Significant Fuel Price Increase This Morning

Commuters across the Perth metropolitan area are advised to check fuel prices immediately, as a significant price hike takes effect from 6:00 AM today, Wednesday, 4 February 2026. FuelWatch reports that the average price for regular unleaded petrol (ULP) will jump by approximately 20 cents per litre, reaching an average of 178.2 cpl. While some independent stations may still offer lower rates, major retailers are expected to hike prices as high as 203.9 cpl. Drivers are encouraged to fill up early at stations offering sub-150 cpl rates, primarily located in the southern and northern suburbs, to avoid the steep mid-week peak.

Major Public Transport Disruptions

The Midland Line remains the most significantly impacted part of the Transperth network. A full shutdown is currently in effect between Bassendean and Midland stations to facilitate major METRONET works. This closure is expected to continue until late February. Commuters should utilize the train replacement bus services, but must allow for significant additional travel time during the morning and afternoon peaks as these buses navigate surface traffic.

Furthermore, Mandurah Line passengers should prepare for nightly disruptions. Starting this evening, services will be restricted between Perth Underground and Aubin Grove from approximately 9:00 PM. Train replacement buses will be operational, but late-night travelers should check the updated timetables before heading to the platform.

Roadworks and Traffic Alerts

Significant road projects continue to influence traffic flow across the city:

  • Fremantle Traffic Bridge:

The bridge remains closed as major replacement works proceed. Extensive detours are in place, and motorists traveling between North Fremantle and the city center should expect congestion on Stirling Highway and the Canning Highway interchange.
  • East Perth Closures:

Ongoing construction of the new East Perth Primary School has resulted in the closure of Waterloo Crescent, between Horatio Street and Bronte Street. Local detours are in place, but these may cause delays for those accessing the eastern CBD.
  • Roe Highway Night Works:

Starting late tonight at 10:00 PM, roadworks will commence on the southbound lanes of Roe Highway in East Cannington. While this will not affect the daytime peak, late-night commuters should be aware of lane restrictions near the Wattle Grove Link.

Increased Police Presence in School Zones

With the first week of the 2026 academic year in full swing, WA Police are maintaining a high-visibility presence in school zones. Motorists are reminded that 40km/h speed limits are strictly enforced during morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up windows. Drivers should stay alert for increased pedestrian activity around local schools and be prepared for potential delays on secondary roads near education precincts.
