Significant Transport Alerts for Saturday, 7 February 2026

Perth commuters and weekend travelers should prepare for a complex day on the roads and rails this Saturday. A combination of major infrastructure projects, including the ongoing closure of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge, and several high-profile events in the Swan Valley and East Perth are expected to create localized congestion and necessitate significant detours.

Rail Network Disruptions

Transperth has confirmed several critical disruptions to the rail network for Saturday, February 7:

  • Airport Line: The line will be fully disrupted between Bayswater and High Wycombe for the entire day. Commuters heading to or from Perth Airport are advised to allow extra travel time and utilize replacement bus services.
  • Midland Line: The major shutdown between Bassendean and Midland remains in effect. This is part of a month-long redevelopment project, and no trains will run on this section of the track today.
  • Event Travel Note: For those attending the Jimmy Barnes concert in the Swan Valley, please be aware that the Guildford shuttle bus will not operate today due to the Midland Line works.

Major Road Closures and Traffic Events

The most significant change for southern suburb commuters remains the full closure of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge. Following its closure earlier this month, traffic is being diverted to the Stirling Highway Bridge. Significant delays are expected in North Fremantle and around the Canning Highway intersection as motorists adjust to the new traffic patterns.

In the CBD and surrounding inner suburbs, several roads remain closed for works:

  • Newcastle Street: Closed between William and Beaufort Streets until Monday, February 9.
  • Hackett Drive, Crawley: Ongoing closures remain in place near the university precinct.
  • Telethon Avenue: Full closure in effect for development works.

Special Event Congestion

Heavy traffic is anticipated in the following areas due to major public events:

  • Swan Valley: The Jimmy Barnes "Working Class Man" 40th Anniversary Tour at Sandalford Wines will draw thousands to Caversham. Expect heavy delays on West Swan Road and Reid Highway. VIP and rideshare access is via Harris Road.
  • East Perth: The HSBC SVNS (Rugby Sevens) at HBF Park begins today. Expect increased pedestrian activity and localized congestion around Lord Street and Pier Street.
  • Wanneroo: The Wanneroo Festival at the Wanneroo Showgrounds will likely cause slow-moving traffic on Wanneroo Road and Ariti Avenue from late afternoon.

Regional Travel Warning

For those planning to travel north toward the Pilbara, Main Roads WA and the Bureau of Meteorology have issued alerts regarding Tropical Cyclone 21U. While not affecting Perth metro roads directly, regional highways including the Great Northern Highway may face closures or hazardous conditions as the system nears the coast on Saturday night.
