Road Infrastructure and Traffic Disruptions

The City of Perth and Main Roads WA have issued several traffic advisories effective Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Motorists and pedestrians are advised of the following disruptions and infrastructure projects:

  • Roe Street, Northbridge: A full road closure is scheduled for April 1, 2026, to facilitate ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure works. Traffic detours will be in place, and motorists are encouraged to seek alternative routes through the CBD.
  • South Perth Footpath Renewals: The City of South Perth continues its 2025/26 Slab Replacement Program. While major works on McDonald Street are slated to begin later this month, active works in the Karawara laneways—specifically between Boongala Close and Kardan Circuit—remain ongoing as of today. Pedestrians should exercise caution and follow all onsite signage.
  • Anstey Street Intersection: Work continues on the new pedestrian zebra crossing at the intersection of Anstey and Angelo Streets. Temporary lane closures and minor delays may occur during off-peak hours.

Public Health and Safety Announcements

WA Health has released critical updates for health providers and the general public as the region prepares for the cooler months:

  • 2026 Influenza Update: The Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) is holding its official 2026 Influenza Update today, Wednesday, 1 April. The session is being held at the Department of Health Theatrette on Royal Street in East Perth. This session provides essential reporting and recording requirements for all WA immunisation providers, including hospitals and general practices, ahead of the peak respiratory season.
  • Winter Preparedness: State health service providers have officially appointed "winter commanders" to coordinate care access and manage patient flow across the metropolitan area. Residents are encouraged to book their seasonal vaccinations through their local pharmacy or GP.

Consumer Protection and Fuel Alerts

A significant change in fuel pricing takes effect today across the Perth metropolitan area and Mandurah:

  • Fuel Excise Reduction: A federal fuel excise reduction comes into effect on 1 April 2026. While the wholesale price has decreased, the WA Government advises that it may take several days for individual retailers to deplete existing stocks.
  • FuelWatch Price Drop: FuelWatch reports that the average price of regular unleaded petrol (ULP) in Perth is expected to decrease by approximately 7 cents per litre starting from 6:00 AM today. Motorists are advised to check the FuelWatch website to locate the most competitive prices, as individual site variations remain high.

Community and Heritage Events

The City of Perth officially marks the continuation of the Lotterywest Boorloo Heritage Festival throughout the month of April. This festival features a series of stories, guided tours, and celebrations across the city. Residents can visit Council House or the City of Perth Library to view the full calendar of monitored activities and feature lighting schedules for the month.
