Public Notice: Essential Infrastructure Works and Back-to-School Advisory

City of Perth Official Notices: Tuesday, 3 February 2026
Welcome to the official City Notices roundup for Tuesday, 3 February 2026. As the metropolitan area transitions into the new year’s activity, several major infrastructure projects and seasonal transitions are impacting local transit and public services.
Education: Start of Term 1
The Department of Education reminds all residents that today marks the second day of Term 1 for the 2026 school year. With thousands of students returning to public schools across Western Australia, motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution in school zones. The 40km/h speed limits are strictly enforced during morning and afternoon peak periods. Parents are encouraged to utilize designated drop-off and pick-up zones to ensure the safety of students and to minimize traffic congestion in residential areas.
METRONET: Midland Line Partial Shutdown
The final phase of the Midland Station revitalisation project is currently underway, necessitating a partial shutdown of the Midland Line. From now through late February, there are no train services operating between Bassendean and Midland stations. This disruption is required to facilitate critical demolition works of the legacy station and to prepare for the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art facility on February 22.
- Replacement Services: High-frequency train replacement buses are operating between Bassendean and Midland.
- Road Impact: The Morrison Road level crossing remains closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the shutdown.
Major Road Closures and Infrastructure Obstructions
The City of Perth has issued several permits for infrastructure works and road closures active this week. Residents and commuters should plan for delays or seek alternative routes in the following areas:
- Newcastle Street: Ongoing road closures are in place between William Street and Beaufort Street, scheduled to remain active until February 9.
- Hackett Drive, Crawley: Construction works have resulted in a significant road closure between Mounts Bay Road and Australia II Drive, active until February 13.
- Telethon Avenue: Long-term closures remain in effect for precinct development, scheduled through August 2026.
- William and Wellington Streets: Preparation is underway for upcoming closures on February 5 and 6. Please observe all posted signage and detours.
New Community Precinct Developments
Construction has officially commenced on the $145 million Swan Active Ellenbrook facility. Site establishment works are also progressing at the new Perth Park precinct near Optus Stadium. These projects aim to deliver world-class sporting, leisure, and hospitality facilities to the community. While major landscaping and civil works are underway, wayfinding signage has been installed to assist pedestrians and cyclists navigating the construction zones.
