Official City Notices for Friday, 10 April 2026

As the City of Perth enters the second week of April, several critical public service announcements and infrastructure updates are in effect. Residents and commuters are advised to take note of significant road closures in Northbridge and West Perth, as well as the ongoing transition in local waste management systems and public transport fare structures.

Northbridge and West Perth Road Closures

Motorists and pedestrians should prepare for significant traffic disruptions starting today, Friday, 10 April 2026, due to scheduled events and maintenance works:

  • Northbridge Event: A full road closure is in effect for Parker Street and Aberdeen Street in Northbridge. This closure is scheduled from Friday, 10 April, through Sunday, 12 April 2026, to accommodate a local community event. Detours are in place, and attendees are encouraged to use public transport.
  • West Perth Maintenance: Walker Avenue in West Perth remains closed to all vehicle traffic. This closure, which began earlier this week, will continue until Saturday, 11 April 2026. Access to local businesses is maintained via marked pedestrian paths.

Waste Management: 3-Bin FOGO Transition

The City of Perth has officially commenced the April 2026 rollout of the Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) waste system. Eligible residential properties are being transitioned from the previous two-bin or three-bin Garden Organics (GO) systems to the new FOGO standard. Residents are reminded that under the new system:

  • The 240L lime-green lidded FOGO bin is now collected weekly.
  • The 140L red lidded general waste bin and the 240L yellow lidded recycling bin will be collected on a fortnightly rotation.

If your property is included in this phase of the rollout, ensure your new kitchen caddy is used for all food scraps to maximize landfill diversion.

Main Roads and Infrastructure Alerts

Ongoing infrastructure projects continue to impact travel times across the metropolitan and regional network:

  • Tonkin Highway Extension: To facilitate Water Corporation relocation works, Hopkinson Road (north of Charolais Court to Jersey Road) remains temporarily closed. These works are expected to conclude by mid-April.
  • Weld Street Bridge: In the Gingin area, construction has commenced on the Weld Street Bridge replacement. Footpaths on both sides of the bridge are currently closed, though public access remains available near the weir.

Health Advisory: 2026 Winter Strategy

WA Health has issued a public reminder regarding the 2026 Winter Strategy. Following high demand on emergency departments last year, health officials are urging residents to prioritize vaccinations this month before the peak flu season. The department is focusing on patient flow and bed capacity improvements to ensure essential services remain accessible to those in need throughout the cooler months.

Transperth Service Information

Passengers are reminded that the "Go Anywhere Fare" is now the standard across the Transperth network. Commuters can enjoy unlimited travel for up to three hours for a flat rate of $2.80 when using a SmartRider with Autoload. Additionally, pedestrian access changes remain in place at McIver Station, and passengers using Stirling Station should check for updated bus stand assignments currently in effect.
