Official City Notices: Saturday, 21 March 2026

The City of Perth and relevant state authorities have issued the following public service announcements, health advisories, and infrastructure updates for Saturday, 21 March 2026. Residents, business owners, and visitors are encouraged to review these notices to ensure minimal disruption to their weekend activities.

Road Closures and Traffic Management

Several significant road closures are in effect today to facilitate infrastructure maintenance and community programs. Motorists should plan for detours in the following areas:

  • Northbridge: A full road closure is in place at the James Street Cul-de-sac throughout the day. Access for local businesses remains via designated pedestrian routes.
  • Crawley (Cool Roads Program): Today marks the final scheduled day for the 2025/26 Cool Roads Program works in Crawley. Temporary closures of various roads in the area are active from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. These works involve heat-reflective road surfacing to mitigate urban heat islands.
  • East Perth and CBD: Rolling closures continue on Queen Street (scheduled through 27 March) and various sections of East Perth (scheduled through 23 March). Additionally, Telethon Avenue remains closed as part of long-term infrastructure works extending through August 2026.

Public Works and Development

The City has finalized several administrative and development milestones. A new lease agreement has been confirmed for the commercial site at Point Fraser, located at 21 Riverside Drive, East Perth, involving the continued operations of local recreational services. This move supports the City’s broader "Shaping Perth City Centre Towards 2036" framework, which aims to enhance the connectivity between the CBD and the Swan River (Derbal Yerrigan) waterfront.

In the western suburbs, the City of Nedlands and Cottesloe remain under discussion regarding local government boundaries and parking infrastructure. Residents are advised that a State-level freeze on paid parking has temporarily halted redevelopment plans for the Cottesloe beachfront carpark north of Napier Street.

Health and Safety Advisory

The WA Department of Health has issued a reminder regarding the 2026 Winter Strategy. Following a high demand for services in previous seasons, health officials are urging residents to prioritize early vaccinations for influenza and other respiratory illnesses before the peak winter months. Public hospital systems are currently managing high patient volumes, and individuals are encouraged to utilize GP services for non-emergency care.

Travelers heading north should be aware of Tropical Cyclone Narelle, which is expected to impact the Northern Territory today, March 21. While no direct impact is forecast for the Perth metropolitan area, those with travel plans to the north should monitor official weather updates for potential flight disruptions.

Looking Ahead

Residents are reminded that major road closures will be in effect tomorrow, Sunday, 22 March, around Optus Stadium to accommodate the West Coast v North Melbourne AFL fixture. Additionally, the Barrack Square Markets will return to the riverside tomorrow morning, providing local produce and family entertainment.
