Overview for Thursday, 26 March 2026

Commuters in Perth should prepare for a mix of planned infrastructure works and service adjustments this Thursday. While the morning peak is expected to follow standard patterns, significant nightly closures on the rail network and ongoing road revitalisation projects in the CBD and Northbridge will require careful trip planning. Additionally, a major industry conference at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre is likely to increase localized traffic in the city center.

Public Transport Disruptions

Transperth has confirmed several disruptions affecting both rail and bus users today. Most notably, the nightly closures of the Airport and Fremantle lines continue. These closures affect the sections between Perth and Claremont, as well as Perth and Fremantle. Commuters relying on these lines for late-evening travel are encouraged to check the latest replacement bus timetables, as these services will deviate from the standard rail schedule.

On the bus network, several routes are facing service or stop disruptions. Passengers using the following routes should allow for extra travel time:

  • Routes 270 and 280: Specific service disruptions are in place for the High Wycombe and Forrestfield areas.
  • Routes 177, 178, and 179: Service adjustments may affect transit through Victoria Park and surrounding suburbs.
  • Routes 511, 512, and 513: Bus stop disruptions are active near the Murdoch and Canning Vale corridors.
  • Routes 494 and 498: Planned disruptions are affecting services in the northern suburbs.
  • Route 307 and 517: These routes are also listed for service alterations throughout the day.

Major Roadworks and CBD Closures

Motorists navigating the city center and inner-city suburbs will encounter several active work zones. The City of Perth’s ongoing infrastructure programs have resulted in the following closures:

  • Roe Street, Northbridge: Major works continue between William Street and Fitzgerald Street, with closures in place until March 31. This is part of the ongoing Northbridge revitalization project.
  • Queen Street, Perth: Road closures remain in effect between Wellington Street and Murray Street, scheduled to conclude by tomorrow.
  • Hackett Drive, Crawley: Closures near the University of Western Australia are active today to facilitate essential maintenance.
  • Telethon Avenue: This remains closed as part of a long-term project expected to continue through August 2026.

In the City of South Perth, residents should be aware of footpath replacement works in the Karawara laneways between Boongala Close and Kardan Circuit, which may result in minor local traffic diversions.

Event Traffic and Advice

The 15th Annual WA Major Projects Conference commences today at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC). With over 150 delegates and high-profile speakers expected, traffic around Mounts Bay Road and the Mitchell Freeway off-ramps near the CBD may be heavier than usual during the morning and afternoon peaks. Commuters are advised to utilize the Transperth journey planner and consider leaving 10 to 15 minutes earlier than usual to account for these localized delays.
