Perth Traffic and Commute Update: Wednesday, 25 March 2026

Commuters heading into the Perth CBD and Northbridge this Wednesday should prepare for a series of scheduled road closures and public transport adjustments. As the metropolitan area continues its infrastructure evolution, several key corridors are currently restricted, which may lead to increased congestion during the morning and afternoon peaks.

Major Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

Significant disruptions are expected in the heart of the city and near the university precinct. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes to avoid potential bottlenecks in the following areas:

  • Roe Street, Northbridge: A full road closure remains in place between William Street and Beaufort Street. This closure is part of ongoing urban renewal works and is expected to remain in effect through the end of the month. Traffic is being diverted via Aberdeen Street.
  • Queen Street, Perth: Work crews have closed sections of Queen Street between Wellington Street and Murray Street. Local access is maintained, but through-traffic is advised to use King Street or William Street instead.
  • Hackett Drive, Crawley: For those commuting to the University of Western Australia or the medical precinct, be advised that Hackett Drive is subject to closures and lane restrictions. Delays are likely during peak university hours.
  • Telethon Avenue: This central thoroughfare remains closed to all traffic as part of long-term development projects in the area, with detours clearly signed.

Public Transport Service Disruptions

Transperth has issued several alerts for Wednesday, March 25, affecting both bus and rail commuters. While the rail network is largely operational during the day, several bus routes are operating under modified schedules or detours.

  • Bus Route 980: Specific service disruptions are scheduled for today, Wednesday, March 25. Passengers should check the Transperth app for real-time location data as some stops may be skipped.
  • Routes 270 and 935: Ongoing service disruptions continue for these routes through Thursday. Commuters should allow for an additional 10 to 15 minutes of travel time.
  • Red CAT Services: A bus stop disruption is currently affecting the Red CAT circuit in the East Perth area, requiring passengers to use adjacent temporary stands.
  • Late-Night Rail Closures: Commuters working late should be aware that the Airport Line and Fremantle Line will experience nightly closures between Perth and Claremont/Fremantle starting from approximately 9:00 PM. Replacement bus services (Route 905 and 906) will be in operation to assist passengers.

Commuter Advice

With the Roe Street closure diverting a significant volume of traffic toward the Graham Farmer Freeway and Aberdeen Street, morning congestion is expected to be heavier than usual. We recommend that commuters utilize the recently completed Midland Station facilities or the Ellenbrook Line to reduce the number of private vehicles entering the city core. If you must drive, ensure you leave at least 15 minutes earlier than your usual departure time to account for detour-related delays.
