Friday Morning Traffic Outlook

As Perth heads into the final commute of the week for Friday, March 27, 2026, motorists and public transport users should prepare for several significant disruptions across the metropolitan area. Today also marks the national 'Walk to Work Day,' with transport authorities encouraging commuters to incorporate walking into their morning routine to help ease congestion on major arteries.

Major Road Closures and CBD Delays

Commuters heading into the Perth CBD should be aware of a major local road closure that may impact city-side navigation. Queen Street remains closed to all traffic today from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. This closure is necessary for the installation of temporary crossovers and hoarding structures. Drivers are advised to use William Street or King Street as alternatives.

In South Perth, asphalt and infrastructure works are scheduled for the right-of-way (ROW 77) between Alston Avenue and Coode Street in Como. These works will take place between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, potentially causing minor delays for residents and local traffic in the area.

Freeway Projects and Night Works

While daytime freeway traffic is expected to flow relatively smoothly, those travelling late in the evening must plan for ramp closures. As part of the Stephenson Avenue Extension project, the Mitchell Freeway northbound on-ramp from Cedric Street will be closed tonight from 8:00 pm until 5:00 am tomorrow morning. Detours will be in place via Karrinyup Road.

  • Stephenson Avenue: Sarich Court remains under a 24/7 closure through to mid-April for pavement construction.
  • Mitchell Freeway PSP: The Principal Shared Path near Britannia Road is closed for upgrades, with detours in place for cyclists and pedestrians until early April.
  • Fremantle Traffic Bridge: The bridge remains closed for major reconstruction. All motorists should continue using the Stirling Highway Bridge as the primary detour route.

Transperth Service Alerts

Transperth has confirmed several bus service disruptions for today. Route 450 is experiencing scheduled disruptions concluding today, so passengers should check the Transperth app for specific stop changes. Additionally, minor deviations continue for routes serving the Fremantle area due to the ongoing bridge works.

On the rail network, services on the Mandurah and Yanchep lines have returned to their regular timetables following earlier disruptions this week. However, passengers on the Airport and Fremantle lines should prepare for standard nightly maintenance closures starting after 9:00 pm.

Commuter Advice

Given the combination of CBD roadworks and the ongoing Fremantle Bridge detour, we recommend allowing an extra 10 to 15 minutes for your journey this morning. If you are participating in Walk to Work Day, ensure you use the designated pedestrian detours around the Mitchell Freeway PSP works in Leederville.
