Official Notice: Easter Sunday Service Adjustments

The City of Perth and surrounding local government authorities wish to advise residents and visitors of several service adjustments and facility closures in effect for Easter Sunday, 5 April 2026. As this day is a recognized public holiday in Western Australia, certain municipal operations will be modified to accommodate the long weekend schedule.

Waste and Recycling Collection

Residential and commercial waste services within the City of Perth will continue to operate on a standard schedule throughout the Easter weekend. While services on Good Friday were previously rescheduled, all collections slated for Sunday, 5 April, will proceed as normal. Residents are reminded to ensure bins are placed on the kerbside by 6:00 AM to facilitate efficient collection. In the City of South Perth, the Recycling Centre and the Animal Care Facility will remain closed on Sunday, with normal operating hours set to resume later in the week.

Retail Trading Hours

Under the Retail Trading Hours Act 1987, general retail shops in the Perth metropolitan area are permitted to trade on Easter Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While these hours are permitted, individual store management may choose to remain closed or operate on a further restricted basis. Major supermarkets and department stores in the city center are expected to observe these Sunday hours, though consumers are encouraged to verify specific store times before traveling. Small and special retail shops, such as pharmacies and convenience stores, may trade outside of these hours under their specific classifications.

Transperth Public Transport Services

Transperth will operate on a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable for all bus, train, and ferry services on 5 April. Passengers are reminded of the "Every Sunday Free" initiative, which provides free travel across the entire network for all SmartRider and contactless payment users. To access free travel, passengers must tag on and off as usual, ensuring their SmartRider balance is not negative. This initiative applies to all services from the first scheduled trip until the final service of the day.

Public Facility and Library Closures

Community facilities across the metropolitan area will observe holiday closures. Specifically, the South Perth and Manning Libraries will be closed on Easter Sunday. Most City of Perth administrative offices and non-essential customer service centers will also be unavailable. Public parks and reserves remain open for recreational use, though scheduled maintenance may be limited during the holiday period.
