City Infrastructure and Road Closures

Several major road closures are in effect this week across the Perth CBD and Northbridge to facilitate essential maintenance and long-term construction projects. Motorists and commuters are advised to plan for significant delays and utilize alternative routes where possible.

  • Roe Street, Northbridge: A full road closure is currently in place between 23 March and 31 March 2026. This closure is necessary for scheduled infrastructure improvements within the precinct.
  • Queen Street, Perth: Civil works continue through 27 March 2026. While local access is maintained for residents and businesses, through traffic remains restricted.
  • Telethon Avenue: 24/7 closures are ongoing between Milligan Street and Wellington Street. These works, facilitating the installation of critical assets and services, are expected to remain in place until mid-May 2026.
  • Sutherland Street: Southbound lanes between Roe Street and Market Street are subject to nightly closures (19:30 to 05:00) as crews perform anti-corrosion treatments on the rail bridge.

Public Health and Wellness Advisories

WA Health has issued several critical updates for the metropolitan community and healthcare providers to ensure public safety and seasonal readiness.

  • Active Measles Alert: A health alert remains active for the Perth metropolitan region following five confirmed cases year-to-date. Residents are urged to monitor for symptoms, including fever, runny nose, and a red blotchy rash. Those born after 1966 who have not received two doses of the MMR vaccine are encouraged to contact their GP.
  • 2026 Influenza Update: A formal briefing for immunisation providers is being held today, Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Department of Health Theatrette in East Perth. This session provides essential reporting and recording requirements for the 2026 flu season.
  • Mosquito-Borne Virus Warning: While focused on the Pilbara and Kimberley, travelers from Perth are warned of increased flavivirus activity, including Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE), detected this week.

Community Planning and Development

The City of Perth and City of South Perth have announced updates regarding regional growth and local amenities.

  • Draft Perth Capital City Plan: The City has recently endorsed a transformative ten-year framework. Key projects include the development of the "Buneenboro Loop" waterfront route and the conversion of William Street into a green spine.
  • South Perth Approved Works: A schedule of approved local works is active for the week of 23–29 March 2026. Residents may notice localized disruptions during daylight hours for verge maintenance and minor utility repairs.
  • New CBD Openings: The hospitality sector continues to expand with the official opening of Hyde Perth this month, featuring 121 guest rooms and a signature Mediterranean restaurant.
