City Roundup: Essential Infrastructure Works and Regional Health Advisories

Official Notice: Road Infrastructure and Traffic Management

The City of Perth and Main Roads Western Australia wish to advise residents and commuters of several significant traffic impacts active for Friday, 13 March 2026. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.

  • Albany Highway, Cannington: Scheduled roadworks will commence on the southbound lanes between Mills Street South and Hamilton Street starting Friday, 13 March, at 11:00 PM. These works are expected to conclude by 5:00 AM on Saturday, 14 March. Night-time restrictions will be in place, and Oversize Over-Mass (OSOM) operators with loads exceeding 3.2 meters in width must contact the site 72 hours prior to movement.
  • Telethon Avenue, Perth: The ongoing full road closure of Telethon Avenue remains in effect. This closure, which began in late 2025, is scheduled to continue through August 2026 to facilitate major precinct developments.
  • Major Infrastructure Works: Weekly obstruction permits for the week commencing 9 March 2026 remain active. High-impact activity is expected within the CBD and Northbridge areas as part of the City’s ongoing maintenance and upgrade schedule.

Public Health Advisory: Regional Virus Detection

The WA Department of Health has issued a high-priority alert for travellers and residents heading north from Perth. As of 12 March 2026, the mosquito surveillance program has detected Ross River virus (RRV) and Barmah Forest virus (BFV) in the Kimberley region.

While these viruses are not typically fatal, they can lead to debilitating symptoms including painful or swollen joints, sore muscles, and severe fatigue. Public health officials urge anyone travelling to northern regions this weekend to "Fight the Bite" by wearing long, loose-fitting clothing and applying effective insect repellent. No human cases of Murray Valley encephalitis have been detected this season, but the risk remains elevated through June.

Community Projects and Local Tenders

Progress continues on several key community facilities designed to enhance public amenity and sustainability within the City of Perth:

  • Mardalup Park Improvements: Construction is underway for the new public toilet facilities at Mardalup Park (Tender No. RFT000277). This project aims to improve accessibility for park users and local residents.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Tender RFT000279 is currently active for the installation of a Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic and Battery Storage System on the embedded network at Goderich Street. This project is a cornerstone of the City’s commitment to renewable energy transitions.

Upcoming Council Governance

Residents are reminded of the upcoming administrative calendar. The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 March 2026, at 4:00 PM. This will be followed by an Agenda Briefing Session on 24 March and the Ordinary Council Meeting on 31 March 2026.
