Significant Traffic Impacts in Crawley and East Perth

Perth commuters should prepare for localized delays and several road closures scheduled for today, Tuesday, 17 March 2026. The most significant disruptions are expected in Crawley and East Perth due to the commencement of the next phase of the Cool Roads Program. Various roads throughout the Crawley area will be subject to temporary daily closures between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm, starting today and continuing through 21 March. Similar daily closures are also in effect across East Perth as part of the same initiative, which may impact traffic flow on secondary routes used to bypass major congestion.

In East Perth, Brown Street remains closed to facilitate essential trenching and the installation of electrical infrastructure. This closure is active between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm and is expected to conclude on Friday, 20 March. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, as traffic signal upgrades are also being conducted concurrently, which could lead to unpredictable light sequences and queuing.

City and Suburban Roadwork Alerts

Several other infrastructure projects are impacting the metropolitan area today:

  • West Perth: Walker Avenue is closed for ongoing works through 20 March. Residents and visitors should plan for detours via adjacent streets.
  • CBD Access: Wolf Lane remains closed today, 17 March, for scheduled maintenance. Additionally, the long-term closure of Telethon Avenue continues as part of major redevelopment works extending into late 2026.
  • Gingin Region: While further north, commuters using the Weld Street Bridge should be aware that service relocation works are currently underway this month ahead of the full bridge replacement project.

Public Transport and Rail Network Status

Transperth services are largely running to a standard Tuesday timetable. The Armadale Line, including the recent Byford Extension, is fully operational following its transformation last year. For those on the Mandurah Line, services are running normally today; however, commuters should be aware that nightly closures between Cockburn Central and Mandurah are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 March. There are no major disruptions reported for the Fremantle, Midland, or Airport lines this morning.

St Patrick’s Day Festivities

With today being St Patrick’s Day, a surge in pedestrian traffic and localized congestion is expected in Northbridge and the CBD entertainment precincts from mid-afternoon. While the primary festival parade concluded last weekend, venues such as Durty Nelly's in the city and the Galway Hooker in Scarborough are hosting all-day events. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in these areas and be mindful of increased activity around public transport hubs during the evening commute.
