Mandurah Line Nightly Closures and Joondalup Festival Alerts for Sunday, March 15

Major Rail Disruption: Mandurah Line Early Closure
Commuters and weekend travelers should be aware of significant disruptions on the Mandurah Line today, Sunday, March 15. To facilitate essential maintenance works, the line will be closed between Cockburn Central and Mandurah starting from mid-afternoon. The last full line services will depart as follows:
- Perth Underground to Mandurah: 3:06 PM
- Mandurah to Perth Underground: 3:40 PM
A train replacement bus service, Route 909, will operate between Cockburn Central and Mandurah while the tracks are closed. Passengers are advised to allow for extra travel time, as these buses may not align perfectly with existing timetables. Full train services are scheduled to resume from the start of the first timetabled service tomorrow morning.
Joondalup St Patrick's Day Festival & Reid Promenade Closure
The Joondalup CBD is expected to be exceptionally busy today as the St Patrick’s Day Festival takes over Reid Promenade. The free event runs from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, but motorists should expect Reid Promenade to be closed to traffic for the duration of the setup and festivities. Increased pedestrian activity and heavy traffic are anticipated on surrounding streets, including Boas Avenue and Grand Boulevard. Additionally, Edith Cowan University (ECU) is hosting its Joondalup Campus Open Day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, which will likely add to the congestion in the northern suburbs.
Scarborough and Trigg Traffic Alerts
Coastal traffic will be heavier than usual due to the Perth Beach OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) event taking place at Scarborough Beach and Trigg Bushland. With the event featuring a reversed course this year, spectators and participants will be concentrated around the beachfront and West Coast Highway. Parking in the Scarborough precinct is expected to reach capacity early in the day; commuters are encouraged to use local bus services or carpool where possible.
Ongoing Roadworks and Long-term Impacts
Drivers should continue to plan for the following major road projects:
- Fremantle Traffic Bridge: This remains closed as part of the ongoing replacement project. Detours via the Stirling Highway bridge are in place.
- Mitchell Freeway (Stephenson Avenue Extension): Reduced speed limits remain in effect between Karrinyup Road and Hutton Street.
- Neerabup Road: Construction has commenced on the new left-turn lane from the Mitchell Freeway northbound off-ramp to Neerabup Road. Expect localized lane narrowings and speed restrictions in this area.
