Metro Inner DAP to Review High-Rise Development Extension Today
Metro Inner DAP Convenes Over South Perth Skyline
Today, Wednesday, 11 March 2026, the Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel (DAP) is scheduled to meet at 9:30 am to determine the future of a significant high-rise project in South Perth. The meeting, held at the Department of Planning, Lands & Heritage on William Street and via video conference, focuses on a major 27-storey mixed-use development located at 50-52 Melville Parade.
The primary item on the agenda is an extension of time request for the project. Originally approved under the reference DAP/17/01288, the development has faced various delays. Today’s session will see the panel review submissions from the City of South Perth and the project’s lead architects regarding the viability of continuing the project under existing planning frameworks. If granted, the extension will allow the developers more time to commence construction on the tower, which is expected to include both residential units and commercial spaces.
State Government Drives Energy Transition at EXA 2026
Government activity also intensifies today at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre as day two of Energy Exchange Australia (EXA) 2026 gets underway. The Western Australian Government, through the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification (DEED), is serving as the principal sponsor for the three-day summit. Government officials are expected to lead several sessions focusing on the state's transition toward renewable energy and the modernization of the energy supply chain.
A key feature of today’s government-sponsored program is the Aboriginal Business Pavilion. This initiative highlights First Nations-owned businesses serving the energy sector, part of a broader policy to increase indigenous participation in major infrastructure projects. Representatives from the state government are scheduled to meet with industry leaders to discuss the 2026 Energy Strategy and the integration of sustainable technologies into the existing power grid.
Life Sciences and Innovation Take Center Stage
In addition to planning and energy sessions, the WA Innovation Calendar marks today for the BioInnovation Festival Conference. This government-supported event brings together researchers, policy advisors, and industry innovators to discuss the state’s life sciences ecosystem. The conference is part of a five-day series aimed at positioning Perth as a regional hub for medical technology and bio-manufacturing. Today's sessions include briefings on investment readiness and collaborative programs between the public sector and private capital investors.
- Metro Inner DAP Meeting: 9:30 AM, 140 William Street.
