Perth Traffic and Commute Overview

Commuters across the Perth metropolitan area should prepare for several key disruptions this Friday, 13 March 2026. While the morning peak is expected to flow relatively well on most major arteries, significant evening roadworks and ongoing public transport deviations will require careful planning for those traveling late or using specific feeder bus routes in the southern suburbs.

Major Roadworks and Freeway Closures

Main Roads WA has confirmed several high-impact closures affecting the Mitchell Freeway and surrounding arterial roads:

  • Mitchell Freeway (Stirling): The northbound on-ramp from Cedric Street will be closed tonight from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM. This is part of the final stages of the Stephenson Avenue Extension project. Motorists are advised to use Karrinyup Road or Hutton Street as alternative entry points.
  • Cedric Street Westbound: The total closure of Cedric Street westbound between Stephenson Avenue and Ellen Stirling Boulevard remains in place. Detours are available via Stephenson Avenue using Oswald Street. Eastbound access remains open.
  • Albany Highway (Cannington): Roadworks are scheduled for the southbound lanes between Mills Street South and Hamilton Street. These works begin late Friday night at 11:00 PM and are expected to conclude by 5:00 AM Saturday morning.
  • Mitchell Freeway Intermittent Closures: Nightly lane closures continue between Karrinyup Road and Hutton Street (southbound) and between Hutton Street and Stephenson Avenue (northbound) from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Speed limits are reduced to 60 km/h through these work zones.

Public Transport Alerts

Transperth has issued several alerts for Friday, primarily affecting bus users in the Mandurah and Dudley Park areas:

  • Routes 593 and 594: These services will experience nightly disruptions ending tonight, Friday, 13 March. Due to road closures, stop 21665 (Leslie St before Coolibah Av) and stop 27636 (Mandurah Rd after Old Coast Rd) will not be in use after 7:00 PM. Passengers should use alternative stops on Old Coast Road or Coolibah Avenue.
  • Midland Line: Following the successful opening of the new Midland METRONET station last month, commuters are reminded that finishing works and landscaping are still ongoing around the station precinct. While train services are running to schedule, please allow extra time for navigating new pedestrian paths and the bus interchange.

Commuter Advice

With the weekend approaching, traffic volume is expected to increase from 3:00 PM today. We recommend that southern corridor commuters using the Mandurah Line check their connecting bus schedules if traveling after 7:00 PM. For those heading north on the Mitchell Freeway late tonight, please monitor overhead electronic signage for the most up-to-date ramp closure information.
