Community Health Alert: Measles Advisory Update

WA Health has issued a high-priority health alert following the identification of multiple measles cases in Western Australia during the first quarter of 2026. As of Wednesday, 11 March 2026, health officials have confirmed four cases year-to-date, primarily linked to returning overseas travellers. Residents are urged to remain vigilant for symptoms including high fever, sore red eyes, a cough, and a runny nose, which are typically followed by a distinctive red blotchy rash.

Because measles is highly infectious and can remain in the air for up to 30 minutes after an infected person has left a room, the public is advised to ensure their vaccinations are up to date. Those who visited potential exposure sites listed in the weekly health update are encouraged to monitor their health for up to 18 days. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP or local clinic in advance to ensure precautions are taken to prevent further transmission in waiting areas.

Long-Term Road Closure: Telethon Avenue

The City of Perth reminds commuters and local businesses that the closure of Telethon Avenue remains in effect. This planned obstruction is part of ongoing precinct works and is scheduled to continue through August 2026. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to follow all posted detours and allow extra travel time when navigating the western end of the CBD. Local access for authorized vehicles is being maintained where safety permits.

Major Infrastructure Works: Week Commencing 9 March

Public notices for the week commencing 9 March 2026, highlight several active obstruction permits across the city. The City's Activity Approvals team has authorized minor works and events that may result in lane closures or footpath diversions in the following areas:

  • CBD Core: Short-term utility maintenance and building facade inspections.
  • East Perth: Preliminary site works near Mardalup Park in preparation for new public facility construction.
  • West Perth: Continuing survey works ahead of the scheduled closures on Walker Avenue later this month.
